Milan, 9 Jan (LaPresse) – ‘A 23-year-old Romanian, arrested in early December for robbery and other property crimes, hanged himself last night at around 10pm in the bathroom of his cell on the second floor of the second section of Rome's Regina Coeli prison. This makes five inmates, plus an operator, who have taken their own lives in the first eight days of the year. The carnage we have witnessed, despite ourselves, in 2024, the year in which the record figure of 89 inmates and 7 agents who committed suicide was reached, continues unabated, also in view of the substantial inertia of the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, and the Meloni government'. This was stated by Gennarino De Fazio, secretary general of the Uilpa Penitentiary Police.
